Your stories, in your own words

When your grandchildren ask how you met, let them hear it from you.

You tell it best, after all.

Over a few unhurried phone calls, a trained interviewer asks about your life and simply listens. Along the way, we come to know your stories and also what you value, what makes you laugh and how you see the world. Later, the people you love will be able to talk with you about almost anything, in a recreation of your voice.

Your stories, in your own words

Your family has heard the proposal story at every dinner. Let them keep asking you for it.

You tell your stories over a few relaxed phone calls, to someone who’s there simply to listen, and the talk wanders into what matters to you and how you see things. Afterwards, your family will be able to talk with you whenever they like, about almost anything, in a recreation of your voice.

How it works

Keep the conversation going

  1. You tell your stories

A trained interviewer calls you for a few relaxed conversations, or meets you by video if you’d rather. You might talk about where you grew up and the people who shaped you, and about what you believe in, what you find funny and how you’ve come to see things. There’s nothing to learn and nothing to write down.

  2. You decide what’s kept

When you’re ready, you give your consent and record a short voice sample. Then you can listen back to everything and leave out anything you’d rather keep to yourself.

  3. Your family can talk with you

In time, your children and grandchildren will be able to talk with you about almost anything, from the day you met to things that came along much later. A grandchild might ask what you’d have made of flying cars and hear you say, “I never got to see one of those, but you know me, I’d have wanted a go.” Your original recordings are kept as well, laughter and all.

Questions

Questions you might have

What if I don’t know where to start?

That’s what the interviewer is there for. They’ll ask gentle questions and follow wherever your stories lead, and you can leave out anything you’d rather not share.

Is it really my voice?

It’s a recreation of your voice, made from your own recordings. Your original recordings are kept too, so your family can always hear you exactly as you spoke.

How does it work?

Speech and language technology will recreate your voice and come to know you through everything you share, from your memories to what you value and how you see things. That’s what will let your family talk with you about almost anything, even a great-grandchild you never got to meet.

What happens to my recordings?

They’re stored privately and used only for your family’s keepsake. You can download them or delete everything at any time, and your family can keep its own copy too.

Can I join on behalf of someone else?

Yes. If you’re thinking of a parent or grandparent, you’re welcome to join for them. They give their own consent before anything is recorded, and they stay in control afterwards.
